
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
DAYS AND HOURS OF PLAY
Play will start on Saturday 2nd of July at 9am and continue until completion of all events. The draw will be placed on the ABA website by 28th June so check there for the anticipated start time for each event. In the Open section, singles will be played first.
OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS
a) Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
b) Age Groups: 35+, 50+, 60+, (requires a minimum of 3 entries per event).
c) All events, where numbers permit, shall be run on a round robin basis, using pools of 4 where possible.
d) A maximum of four events can be entered. A player may enter in 1 age group only in Singles and Mixed Doubles and 2 consecutive age groups for doubles events.
SOCIAL EVENTS
a) Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Age Groups: 40+ and 55+.
c) All events shall be run on a round robin basis.
d) The Tournament Controller reserves the right to re-grade any entrant.
e) Players can only enter in two doubles and one mixed doubles event.
f) It is recommended that players entering the Social grade events should be graded at a level such that if playing in the Inter-association competition they would be playing no higher than Masters Division 4 or Veterans Division 3.
ELIGIBILITY
a) No player shall be eligible to compete unless he/she is a player in good standing with his/her National Association and is an affiliated member of Badminton New Zealand.
b) For championship events players must be at least 34/49/59 years of age throughout the year of the event. In Social events players must be at least 39/54 years of age throughout the year of the event.
c) A player may participate in their respective age group or in any younger age group.
d) It is recommended that players participating in the Inter-association competition in Masters Division 1, 2 or 3, or in Veterans Division 1 or 2 should be playing in the Open Championship grade.
ENTRIES
a) Entries can be submitted in any one of the following ways:
By going to the ABA Masters website and entering directly using Tournament Planner
By completing and sending this form to the ABA office
b) All entries must be accompanied by the correct entry fees, and be received by the Tournament Controller no later than 5.00pm Friday 24th June, 2011.
c) Payment may be made by either:
Cheque made payable to ‘Auckland Masters Badminton’.
By direct credit to the ABA bank account number 12-3045-0373701-04
Using a credit card and submitting with your form at the ABA office
d) All players enter at their own risk and no responsibility will be accepted for any injury received during the Championships.
RULES OF PLAY
a) Subject to the following Tournament rules, the Rules of Play shall be the Laws of Badminton as adopted by the International Badminton Federation.
b) The scoring system to be used will be determined by the number of entries in each event.
c) Winners of pools will be determined by the number of wins, then by point differential (points won minus points lost). Where finals are necessary these shall be the best of 3 games.
d) An interval not exceeding 2 minutes between the second and third games may be taken in finals in all events if requested.
e) Competitors will be entitled to a rest period of 10 minutes between matches. An extension of this time will be at the discretion of the Tournament Controller to 15 minutes.
COMPETITORS DUTIES
Competitors must:
a) Report to the tournament steward on arrival at the hall at least 15 minutes before being required to play, and should not leave the hall without the consent of the tournament steward.
b) Act as umpires and line judges when called upon.
c) Be ready to play a match as drawn in the timetable, immediately the previous match on that court has been completed.
DRESS CODE
a) Competitors must appear in clothing designed and intended for racquet sports that conform to the Badminton NZ Clothing Code.
b) White or non-marking soled shoes only permitted.
JUDICIAL
The Tournament Controller’s decisions on all questions as to the Rules of Play and the Laws of Badminton will be final.
MISCONDUCT
a) Following one warning for misconduct, the Tournament Controller shall have the authority to disqualify a player from any further play during the tournament if there is a repetition of misconduct.
b) The Tournament Controller reserves the right, if a competitor is not available or ready to play, or has failed to comply with a prior direction of the Controller to act as a line judge or umpire, to award the match to his/her opponent by default.
GENERAL
a) Light catering will be available for the duration of the tournament.
b) Auckland Masters selectors will do the seeding for all events.
c) The Tournament Controller reserves the right to amend the hours of play.
d) All players enter at their own risk. No responsibility will be accepted for any injury received during the tournament.
e) Players withdrawing after entries have closed will not be eligible for a refund unless a medical certificate is submitted at the time of withdrawal
LATE ENTRIES MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED
